The Flight Series by Mono Clothing

Just checked out arcademi and found mono clothing, great designs by Heather Martin from Vancouver, Canada… „mono is a succession of capsule series and projects which attempt to explore the spaces between art, craft, design and fashion aiming to redefine the categorical convention of these genres as well as their ideals, content, norms, and expectations“

I especially loved the lightness of the Flight Series:

„Light Diffuses. A frayed web suspends within a delicate haze. An ethereal mist reflects a pale, muted spectrum. FLIGHT explores the diaphanous plane where the astral body departs from the physical form in a translucent vapor.

FLIGHT is the restoration of lightness & calm.“

Abbey Watkins

Thanks to my sister Kerstin I found Abbey Watkins blog tobacco and leather and her portfolio on arcademi.

I think Abbey finds the best words to describe herself and her work:

„Originally from Herefordshire, studying and living in Manchester. I am in my third and final year of a degree in Textile Design for Fashion.

Where I get my inspiration from is vast and ever changing. I currently have a fixation with the mix of human and animal, fantasy worlds and exploring the subconscious mind.

My work revolves around illustration, but I also create print designs, garment designs and samples.“

Burberry Digitally Interactive Autumn/Winter 2010 Campaign

I have always been a huge fan of Burberry ad campaigns and the new one, shot by Mario Testino,  is another very cool work, especially the interactive feature on www.burberry.com

„This campaign protects our authentic and timeless heritage and evolves the modern way in which we communicate that. The Burberry campaigns have always been characterized by the dynamic British cast and I wanted to express the individuality and the energy behind each of their different creative expressions. Burberry was founded on innovation and outerwear and I want anyone who sees the campaign not just to see images, but to feel a part of what we have created; connecting people through technology, music, the collections, the attitude, and the emotion captures.“ – Christopher Bailey, Burberry CEO

These great looks kind of make me look forward to this fall, although I love love love summer….

Ann Demeulemeester’s green Seoul store

Thanks to the new issue of Elle Germany I found the great botanical architecture of Ann Demeulemeester’s shop in Seoul, South Korea, which was designed by the architects Minsuk Cho and Kisu Park. I am totally enthusiastic about this  flora-clothed multi-level building which takes green roofs and living walls to another level, using foliage to cover both the external and internal wall surfaces. I love that it looks like it is growing up from underneath the greenery.

VILDE SVANER – Green Fashion made in Germany

I’m so enthusiastic about finding fashion designers located near my home town who do such a great work, which is best desribed by their press release:
„The designs combine elegance and urbanity; they are straightforward and also modern.
Timelessness gets connected with contemporary streams. Aesthetics and purism shall not
exclude functionalism. VILDE SVANERs work focuses on traditional values like trust,
continuance and sincerity. Design and construction of the collections are the main aspect of
the label. Different approaches and preferences influence the designing process – Italy meets
Scandinavia, elegance meets understatement, present meets past. VILDE SVANER does not
design basics but modest extravagance. Instead of winter- and summer collection, the
designers offer timeless items that are easy to combine and seasonally independent.“ www.vildesvaner.com

Book-Cut Sculptures by Su Blackwell

„Paper has been used for communication since its invention; either between humans or in an attempt to communicate with the spirit world. I employ this delicate, accessible medium and use irreversible, destructive processes to reflect on the precariousness of the world we inhabit and the fragility of our life, dreams and ambitions.“  Su Blackwell

The artists own statement about her work are the best words to describe her stunning, romantic and ornate book-cut sculptures and installations.

Mercedes Helnwein

Thanks to Lula Magazine, I found this great and inspiring artist. Mercedes Helnwein , daughter of Austrian Artist Gottfried Helnwein, was born in Vienna. Since 1997 she lives in Tipperary, Ireland and in Los Angeles. She primarily makes large-scale drawings with pencil, colored pencil, ink, pastel, aquarelle and oil. In her work she often shows people in absurd and mysterious situations along with other people to whom they don’t seem to be in a relationship. In 2004 Mercedes started the publishing company “Devils Porchlight Press” with the artist Alex Prager and in 2008 her début novel “The Potential Hazards of Hester Day” was published.
